The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on Sunday congratulated the Super Falcons over the historic victory at the just-concluded 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The women’s national football team came from two goals down in the first half to defeat Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The thrilling victory marked a record-extending 10th WAFCON title for Nigeria and is a testament to the team’s skill, determination, and unwavering dedication.
Musawa, who watched the match live with the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, commended the team’s resilience and attacking prowess, which saw the Super Falcons stage an incredible comeback after trailing 2-0 at halftime.
The minister expressed pride in the team’s achievement, which not only brought glory to Nigeria but also inspired a new generation of young Nigerians to pursue their dreams in sports and beyond.
“I am thrilled to celebrate the Super Falcons of Nigeria on their remarkable achievement in the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Their 3-2 win over Morocco is a testament to their skill, determination and unwavering dedication to representing our great nation.

On his part, Hon. Benjamin Kalu also extended his warm congratulations to the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s Women’s National Football Team, on their resounding victory.
In a statement made available to parliamentary correspondents in Abuja, Kalu commended the team’s passion, unmatched skill, prowess and undeterred spirit.
The Deputy Speaker noted that the triumph is not just about a trophy but a symbol of the diligence, resilience, and unstoppable rise of women in sports, governance and other areas of life and endeavours.
He said that the triumph also marks a significant milestone for Nigerian women’s football, showcasing the team’s dedication to the sport.
Applauding the team for flying the Nigerian flag high in Morocco, Hon. Kalu recalled that the thrilling comeback of a 3-2 goal margin that put the Super Falcons ahead of the host nation and ultimately gave Nigeria the deserved victory was a remarkable display of resilience and determination.
He pledged continued parliamentary support for sports development in Nigeria.

Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, also congratulated Nigeria’s national women’s football team.
She disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday by her Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Jonathan Eze.
The minister further applauded the team’s resilience, teamwork, and grace under pressure, calling their triumph a source of national pride and a beacon of hope for girls across the country.
