The Guinea midfielder found the net as the Red Bulls’ fine start to their maiden Bundesliga season continued
Guinean starlet Naby Keita scored his first brace for new club Rasen Ballsport Leipzig when he helped them to a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga on Saturday.
Leipzig secured their fifth win in eight outings and moved to the second spot on the log standings, two points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich who lead with 18-points from eight matches.
After rather slow start into the proceedings, the 21-year-old grabbed his first in the final stages of the first half as he fired the hosts to a 1-0 half-time lead with a brilliant 42nd-minute solo effort.
The National Elephants international took on a couple of Bremen defenders in a marauding individual run before eventually rounding Felix Wiedwald in the visitors’ goals to see his effort over the line and hand Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Leipzig the lead.
In the second half, the Red Bulls continued from where they left off in the first half and went close to doubling their lead a couple of times through Emil Forsberg, until the man who is dubbed as the ‘next Yaya Toure’ doubled their lead and scored his second of the game in the 73rd minute with a headed effort.
Former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry responded immediately, but Leipzig added their third in stoppage time through Davie Selke and would hang on to record their fifth win of the season. They remain unbeaten and become the first promoted side in 19 years to avoid defeat in their first eight matches.
Amazingly, Keita turned down Arsene Wenger’s plea to join Arsenal as he preferred to move to Leipzig, and the man who is nicknamed ‘Deco’ after the sensational Portuguese midfielder is slowly showing the kind of quality that may well prompt the French coach to revive his transfer interest.
