CHIEF Executive Officer, NairaBet, Akin Alabi, has pledged his support for the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State chapter.
He made the pledge when some executive members of the association paid him a courtesy call in his office at NairaBet corporate headquarters, Lekki in Lagos, on Monday.
He noted that being a stakeholder in the sports industry, it became imperative for him to try as much as he can to give support to sports journalists.
Alabi, who is expected to deliver a paper during a seminar to mark the Oyo SWAN week on December 14, stated that he will do whatever is within his reach to support Oyo SWAN.
He, however, used the opportunity of the meeting to accept the proposal by Oyo SWAN to make him the association’s patron.
“I have had series of requests to come and be patron of various associations but I do turn them down because I am always afraid being associated with an association which may likely bring my image and name to disrepute.
“But, I think I am in safe hands for the mere fact that you are journalists and are known for being the watchdog in the society and also for the fact that I strongly believe in the new leadership of the association, headed by the chairman, Niyi Alebiosu. I, therefore, accept your request to make me your patron,” he said.
Responding on behalf of Oyo SWAN, secretary of the association, Adewale Tijani, thanked Alabi for the warm reception as well as his resolve to give support to the association, particularly his acceptance of being Oyo SWAN patron.
“Let me, on behalf of our dear association, appreciate your kind gesture and your decision to key into our proposals. We only pray that God in His infinite mercy and wisdom, will continue to be with you and continue to let your business flourish.
“We want to also assure you that you won’t at any point in time have cause to regret being associated with us. We say a very big thank you.”
