Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came close to joining LaLiga strugglers Sevilla in the summer of 2022 according to his agent Pablo Ceijas.
Ceijas explained that Kvaratskhelia was offered to several Spanish clubs, including Valencia, Levante, and Sevilla, for a price of €6m. Despite Sevilla showing the most interest in Kvaratskhelia, sporting director Monchi decided against signing him due to his assessment that the team’s left wing was already well-covered.
“There was talk of Valencia, Levante, and Sevilla: around €6m. Sevilla was the club that came closest and Monchi turned him down,” said Ceija.

Although Kvaratskhelia is now worth over ten times the €6m fee, which would have been a bargain at the time. Fortunately for Napoli, they recognized his potential and signed him for €11.5m from Dinamo Batumi not long after.
The Georgian has since hit the ground running with 12 goals and 10 assists in the 23 league appearance. Possessing a dazzling dribbling style of play that has earned him the nickname ‘Kvaradonna’ in comparison with late Napoli legend Diego Maradona.
Kvaratskhelia has forged arguably Europe’s most devastating strike partnership with Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen (21G, 4A), as they lead Napoli towards a long-awaited and almost certain Scudetto title.
