The National Council of Sports has announced new measures aimed at improving athletes safety via insurance policies and streamlining national sporting events following its meeting on Friday at the Kashim Shettima Hall, State Library Complex, Calabar, Cross River State.
This was disclosed in a communiqué signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Kehinde Ajayi, Director, Press, National Sports Commission (NSC), on Sunday.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the Council said it noted a presentation on the growing importance of emerging risks in sports and stressed the need to provide adequate insurance coverage for athletes, officials and sports facilities during national competitions.
The Council stated that ensuring proper insurance protection has become essential to safeguarding participants and maintaining the integrity of sporting events across the country.
The Council also approved the reduction of the number of sports featured at the National Sports Festival.
According to the communiqué, “the National Sports Commission, working in collaboration with the National Sports Federations and the Forum of State Directors of Sports, has been directed to take necessary actions to implement the decision.”
The National Council of Sports meeting brought together key stakeholders from across the country to review policies and chart a course for improved sports administration.
The resolutions, the Council said, reflect its commitment to enhancing safety standards, promoting efficiency, and strengthening the overall framework for sports development nationwide.
