Team Muller at the weekend qualified for the final of the 2017 Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC Tennis League Cup.
The Lagosians saw off fellow debutants Team Ndoma-Egba of Abuja 5-2 to grab the final ticket after the two-day fixture decided at the Enugu Sports Club.
Joseph Imeh recorded the first win of the day when he conquered much improved Paul Emmanuel 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s singles.
Emmanuel Idoko made it 2-0 for the Lagos side with the demolition of former national champion, Thomas Otu 6-2, 6-2 in another men’s singles tie.
Team Ndoma-Egba gave a warning signal that they could salvage the situation, as Aanu Aiyegbusi in the ladies singles rallied to a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Ronke Akingbade.
However, the pair of Joseph Imeh and Mohammed Mohammed compounded the woes of the Abuja-side as they defeated Sunday Maku and Thomas Otu 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s doubles also decided in the opening day.
With 3-1 advantage, Team Muller the following day {Sunday}, in the reverse men’s singles clinched the maximum four wins required in each fixture through Emmanuel Idoko, who after losing the first set 1-6 stunned Paul Emmanuel 6-1, 6-2.
Team Muller made it 5-1 as Sanni Adamu resorted to scratch after losing 4-6 in the first set in the reverse men’s singles clash with Mohammed Mohammed.
However, Team Ndoma-Egba consoled themselves in the last game of the fixture, as the duo of Osareme Airhunwhunde and Taye Owolabi defied all odds to beat Mohammed Mohammed and Deborah Gbadamosi 4-6, 6-2, 14–12 in the mixed doubles.
Meanwhile, defending champions, Team Offikwu of Kaduna and the 2015 finalists, Team Civil Defence of Abuja will clash in Abuja on December 2 and 3 in the second semi-final.
The winners of the NCC Tennis League would smile home with N7million as the finalists settle for N5millon, while third and fourth placed teams go home with N3million and N2million respectively.
