The Imo State football and handball teams, on the first day of the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) taking place in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, have won their matches.
The football team which played against the Cross Rivers football team carried the day with two goals to nothing.
Both goals were scored by the same player in the second half of the game, which was played under heavy rains at noon on Wednesday.
This, though, was after a goalless draw in the first half and a penalty lost by the Imo team some twenty-five minutes in the second half.
Earlier in the morning, the Imo handball team (males) had defeated the Akwa Ibom host State’s team with nine goals to seven.
The Commissioner for Sports, Imo State, Honourable Obinna Onyeocha, with members of his State Liaison Committee, showed presence in both outings before proceeding to the Uyo Township Stadium at evening for the official opening ceremony of the Niger Delta Sports Festival.
