In the spirit of identifying and unifying the youths, the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) has kicked off the secondary school sports tournament among secondary school students in Adamawa state.
The tournament which is tagged ‘Promoting Unity, Peace and Regional Integration’ is aimed at fostering unity at a young age.
The tournament which is on zonal bases has five events and will be held at the General Mohamed Muritala College (GMMC) Yola
Declaring the tournament open, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali said the competition is meant to forestar unity among youths in the zone and also identify talents who will future stars and also encourage those that excel in their academic.
Represented by Joshua Ibrahim Sangari, the MD said this tournament is aimed at reviving the school sports in the region.
The five-day tournament will produce winners in the five games for both boys and girls that will represent Adamawa state in Bauchi state.
The games being completed for includes athletics, basketball, football, tennis and table tennis.
In the opening football match played today, Northern zone defeated Southern zone 4-3 on penalty after playing one one draw at regulation time.
