New CAF, a blessing to Nigeria— Pinnick

PRESIDENT of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, says the country stands to gain much lift under Ahmad Ahmad as the new head of the Cofederations of  Africa Football (CAF).

On Thursday, Madagascar’s Ahmad Ahmad beat Issa Hayatou by 34-20 votes in an election held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to emerge the new CAF boss.

Pinnick told sportswriters in Lagos on Sunday that it was time for Nigeria to celebrate.

‘’After the election, Ahmad himself reminded me that it was Nigeria’s might and predigree in football that encouraged him to challenge Hayatou and that he would see that Nigeria remain and improve as a world soccer power.’’

Pinnick, who also won an executive CAF seat at the Addis Ababa poll, added that the privileges Nigeria would under Ahmad enjoy will also benefit technocrats, coaches, infrastuctural developments.

Pinnick, who was at the Agege Stadium to watch home side MFM beat Plateau United 2-1 in a Premier League tie, praised the League organisers for the progress made so far.

“I commend the organisers of the League; you can imagine the size of the crowd here at the stadium on a day big EPL sides like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Man City and Liverpool are playing. The large turnout shows that the League is working,” he added.
