New stadium project will reduce accommodation expenses — NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has said the facilities it is constructing at package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, was to reduce expenses on hotel spending and to reduce costs.

NFF Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, who stated this in an exclusive interview with Sporting Tribune in Abuja, said the structure, when completed, will have a hostel to accommodate the Super Eagles and other national teams, a standard gym, swimming pool, a natural pitch, an artificial pitch and other facilities that can favourably compete with others globally.

According to the NFF scribe, the Federation always incur a lot of bills to accommodate and feed the national teams through accommodation and feeding, creating deep holes in the Federation’s purse.

He, however, stated that the construction could not have come at a better time.

Sanusi said, “The structure, as you can see, is a hotel, accommodation facilities for the national teams and also the pitches.

“It is an accommodation facility where there will be a swimming pool, a gym and all other facilities that you find in a standard hotel, so that the Nigeria Football Federation will cut the cost of administration.

“Significantly, we pay a lot of money to accommodate our teams in hotels, feed them. With these facilities now, I’m sure that when it’s completed, a lot of administrative exigencies will be reduced.

“For the pitches, there’s one for the (senior) national team, and there’s one for other teams. And if you look at what is going on outside there, there are two pitches being constructed, one natural pitch and one artificial pitch.

“By the time we’re done with them, we’ll now do the other one (FIFA Goal Project) because it has been overflogged and overused. The pitch has been there for over 15 to 20 years.”
