Liverpool's pursuit of Naby Keita comes to an end.
Liverpool have shown their determination in attempting to break down RB Leipzig to sign Naby Keita, but Jurgen Klopp showed his frustration when speaking to Sky Deutschland.
Liverpool saw numerous bids rejected in their chase to sign Guinean midfielder Naby Keita from RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old was identified by Klopp as their main transfer target for the summer as the German coach looked to bolster his midfield.
However, as they saw their final £66 million bid turned down, the Reds gave up on their pursuit for Keita, whose £48 million release clause will be triggered next summer.
After Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl sternly refused to cash in on the midfielder, saying ‘The chance [of Keita leaving] is null’, Klopp responded in good humour.
Speaking to Sky Deutschland after Liverpool’s pre-season victory over Hertha Berlin, the manager joked: ‘Our next offer for Keita is €300m!’.
