NFF, CAF, FIFA laud Omeruo at 24th

Kasimpasa of Turkey defender, Kenneth Omeruo has received special messages from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Confederation of African Football (CAF) and world soccer body, FIFA, on the occasion of his 24th birthday.

It turned out to be a very epochal day for Omeruo, who only recently proposed marriage to his long-time heartthrob, Chioma, as FIFA mentioned him among Tuesday’s three birthday celebrants.

Further glee came for Omeruo when CAF recognised him as a Nigerian international, though the stopper on loan from Chelsea was not invited for the Super Eagles’ decisive World Cup qualifier against Zambia.

Not to be left out of giving recognition to Omeruo, the NFF also took to Twitter to express their felicitations with the former Sunshine Stars of Akure and Standard Liege of Belgium star, who has played on loan from Chelsea at four different clubs.

NFF’s recognition is due honour to a player who has represented Nigeria cadet, youth and senior levels, after popping to limelight in the silver-winning Golden Eaglets’ squad of the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup hosted by the country.

He then featured for the Flying Eagles at Colombia 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup and has gone on to garner 31 caps with the Super Eagles, after making his debut in 2013.

Though he is yet to play an official game for Chelsea, Omeruo has matured into one of the best defenders on the continent; such that his teammates, friends and fans were not left out of birthday greetings for him on social media.

The NFF tweeted on their official handle, @thenff: “Happy birthday @NGSuperEagles defender Kenneth @omeruo22;” this came after FFIA’s post, which read: “? #HBD to @omeruo22 (24), Saki Kumagai (27), @graemelesaux14 (49), Sergio Goycochea;” while CAF added: “Happy 24th birthday to Nigerian international Kenneth Omeruo.”
