NFF: Stakeholders call on Sports Minister to halt Sanusi’s fourth term agenda

As the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) gets set for its Annual General Assembly on Friday, some sports-loving Nigerians have called on Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh to prevail on the football-ruling body to stop the NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi from spending 10 years as a scribe.

The Asaba, Delta State AGA is rumoured to be majorly set to rubber stamp tenure elongation for the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.

A former Green Eagles skipper, Segun Odegbami warned that after 10 years in the saddle, Sanusi should give way to fresh ideas.

He said, “It is on record that Sanusi is not an elected member of NFF but on appointment. The question really is: has he brought changes with his position to want another term?”

“There is an unwritten rule that when the president is from the North the secretary general should come from the south for balancing. This has existed for a long time.

“I hope if the south does the same the North will not accept it.

“Let Sanusi give way for people with fresh ideas to come on board not because I hate him but to move our football forward.”

According to Uche Onochie, a football legal luminary, the sports minister should go beyond the usual opening remark rhetoric at the AGA and set the agenda for a fresh brain to run the NFF secretariat.

“Sanusi has done enough, either good or bad and he needs to leave after 17 years at the FA,” Onochie said. “If the minister fails to stop this tenure elongation, he can be sure that giving Sanusi another four-year contract will be challenged in court,” he said.

In his contribution, former player, Harrison Jalla called on the sports minister and Nigerian football stakeholders to stay vigilant while the AGA goes on in Asaba.

He stated, “The real cleansing of the NFF must begin now as the fight has been taken to the Presidency for action,” Jalla said.”This is part of the corruption in the NFF that we have been calling the anti-graft agencies to look into.

“Sanusi is part of the rot in the NFF and we say no to tenure elongation. He is not the only Nigerian that can be Secretary. To the players union, Sanusi must go.”
