President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated the decision of the Federal Government to accord sports adequate priority as a tool to foster unity in the country.
He gave the assurance in Bida, Niger State at the final of a Horse Racing Tournament in his honour.
The event tagged ‘President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Horse Racing Tournament’ was held at the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar International Race Course in Bida.
It attracted Horse racers from Nigeria, Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, Mali and Cameroon.
President Tinubu who was impressed with the spread of the event said sports would be used to further unite Nigerians.
Represented by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, the president pointed out that it is another way of engaging the youths in productive ventures.
The Etsu Nupe and chairman Niger state council of traditional rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar expressed joy that the game has continued to gain acceptance in the area.
Coordinator, Nigeria Horse Racing Federation, Sarkin Dawaki Nupe Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar Bida, who is also the organiser of the tournament, explained that with a new anti-doping system introduced, the game of horse racing in the country can now compete without both jockeys and their horses racing under the influence of drugs.
The Ogesoba of Benin kingdom, Mathew Atama and the Gabi Nupe, Alhaji Sule Abdullahi Jibrin Bala expressed joy with the large turnout of spectators.
Twelve cars, trophies and cash were won at the tournament.
