Tottenham are claiming that the Nigerian Football Federation are weighing up a potential approach to Kion Etete about playing for them.
Etete has been one of the biggest success stories from the Tottenham academy during the 2021/22 season.
The centre-forward initially shone on loan at Northampton Town in the first half of the campaign before Spurs sent him on loan to Cheltenham in January, and the striker made the step up to League One effortlessly, finishing with six-goal contributions in 13 appearances (Transfermarkt).
Although Etete’s spell at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium was interrupted by injury, he has done well enough to attract interest from Championship clubs ahead of next season, with Queens Park Ranger reportedly keen on signing the striker on loan.
Football Insider has now revealed that the Nigerian FA will keep a close eye on the 20-year-old’s progress next season and could call him up to the Super Eagles set-up.

Football Insider said about the development: “He’s 20 now and he’s never really had a look-in at any England Under 20 levels. It’s no surprise to me to hear Nigeria are interested in him. He’s got Nigerian parentage so he would be eligible for them.
“It seems to be a lot of African or Caribbean teams are looking at players with dual nationality to represent them. It’s becoming more are more common. What I was told is that Nigeria are impressed with what he did last season.
“Obviously his size is impressive. So if he can go and do it say, for example, in the Championship next season (2022-23) they may be making a call to have a look at him. That would really be rewarding for his progress over the last 18 months.”
