Nigeria should dispense with Peseiro’s services — Ilaboya

A veteran sports journalist and the Executive chairman, Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Frank Ilaboya has called for the sack of Super Eagles’ coach, Jose Peseiro.

He said the Portuguese lacks the tactical acumen and discipline to handle a team like the Eagles which ranks among one of the best football teams in the world.

He said, “I’m surprised that not many people expected the Super Eagles to do well at the just concluded AFCON. Super Eagles is a force to reckon with in Africa. You know what that means. But the fact that we didn’t win means that something is fundamentally wrong and that is the area I want Nigeria to tackle.

“What is wrong with Super Eagles? What is wrong is the coach. We have a very terrible coach. Yes, we got silver, but any coach that does not want to support Nigerian football should be told to go. This man is not ready to support Nigerian football.

“Nigerian league is very good but we need encouragement. Can you imagine an AFCON you are taking one goalkeeper (from the league) and how do you expect others to feel? This man should be allowed to go as quickly as possible and job should be giving to whoever is ready to develop Nigerian football.

“Super Eagles is not for experimenting any longer. It is not about getting silver, we are above that but let’s get holistic coach that will take believe in our players.

“These players are not second-rate anywhere. Our league has to be developed and the only way to involve them (the coach) is by having them in the national team but this man (Peseiro) is not ready.”
