Angola’s head coach, Srdan Vasiljevic has said the loss to Nigeria in the quarter-final of the 5th African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco has served as a lesson to his charges.
Nigeria came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win on Sunday night to land in the semi-final of the 2018 CHAN.
“Football is sometimes not favourable. We scored [through Vladimir Va, 55th minute] and Nigeria equalised in the last minute before winning it in extra-time.
“We thought it was enough to hold on for a win but it wasn’t enough and we lost. I hoped to have a good result but this is football for you.
“The tournament provides us with a lot of experience which will help us going forward because this is a tournament that gives great experience to our players,” Srdan told cafonline.com.
Meanwhile, Ikechukwu Ezenwa who won the Man of the Match attributed the victory of the Eagles to team work.
“I have to thank the team especially the coach who was very calm in the technical area pushing the team and believing that we will get the win. “The performance was great because we continued to push and tried to get the goal after going down and we did just that in the last minute.
“I’m happy with my performance and having Gernot Rohr here watching, I believe that will help me with the senior national team.
“We are being guided by three Ds, dedication, determination and discipline and the spirit of oneness is also helping us a lot. I address my teammates before we left Nigeria and resolved that we don’t want to come back empty-handed from the competition. We will continue to offer our best,” Ezenwa stated.
