Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has said only players with three exceptional qualities will make his team that will face Cameroon in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon next weekend.
Speaking to sports writers in Kano after Nigeria’s Home-based defeated Benin Republic 2-0 to win on 2-1 goals aggregate to secure a berth at the 2018 Championship of African Nations, CHAN, in Kenya, Rohr rolled out the yardstick for his selection against the Indomitable Lions
Said the Franco-German: “The quality of the player, experience and confidence a player can exhibit while in the team will be some of my criteria.”
He further added that some players are doing well in in their clubs and the team needs their confidence and motivation ahead of the game against Cameroon.
Rohr promised Nigerians that the list will be a very interesting one, with players coming back from injury expected to earn a recall back to the national team.
“The team will be much better than the last one against South Africa. I have worked very well on areas the Super Eagles were lacking in the last game,” an optimistic Rohr said.
Without actually mentioning names, Rohr also stated that he would have three of the CHAN Eagles players in camp for the Cameroonian game.
He also confirmed the arrival of new faces into the national team.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles spokeman, Toyin Ibitoye said on Monday that the list of players read out by a section of the media was not approved by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“There is no list of players out already. All you have seen or heard is speculative. The authentic list will be released through the appropriate channel,” said Ibitoye.
The Super Eagles will take on the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo on September 1, with the return leg four days later in Yaoundé.
