Nimrod commends CGC Volleyball Premier League standard

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod, has commended the standard of play and organisation of the just-concluded first phase of the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League, which ended on Thursday in Abuja, describing it as challenging but very rewarding.

Nimrod, while acknowledging the standard of the League and the quality displayed by the players, said Nigeria is now a force to be reckoned with and is attracting global attention.

He said, “I’m really happy because these are young players, no more over-aged players. A lot of countries are looking at them, and scouts are already coming to pick our players. That alone shows the impact of this league.”

The NVBF President hailed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its consistent sponsorship, saying their support has allowed the Federation to focus on broader development.

“I must appreciate the Comptroller General of Customs for his support. It has relieved us, especially me as President, to concentrate on other events and grassroots programmes,” he added.

At the end of the first phase, CNS Spikers led the men’s table with 29 points, followed by Nigeria Customs (25), NSCDC (25) and COAS (23). Nigeria Air Force (6) and Kada Kings (4) sit in relegation. In the women’s category, Customs top with 33 points, NSCDC are second on 29, CNS third with 27, and COAS fourth on 24. Wikki (3) and Delta Force (0) occupy the relegation spots.

NCS Director of Sports, Samuel Onikeku, who represented the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, promised an improved final stage.

According to Onikeku, the NCS is committed to delivering a better and more competitive second phase, as he assured that the Customs leadership remains determined to strengthen volleyball and promote sports development across Nigeria

Sporting Tribune reports that the second phase will hold in Abuja from 29th November to 10th December this year, when the overall champions will be officially crowned.
