NNL: Akwa United battles Sporting Lagos for Southern Conference B supremacy

The stage is set for a thrilling encounter in the Nigeria National League (NNL), as Akwa United hosts Sporting Lagos in a top-of-the-table clash in Southern Conference B.

The Godwill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo will be abuzz with excitement as these two heavyweights lock horns, with the winner poised to take a significant step towards the top spot.

Akwa United, currently leading the group with 8 wins and 1 draw from 13 matches, will look to bounce back from their recent loss to Osun United. The Uyo-based team boasts the best defence in the league, having conceded only 10 goals so far. Coach Okey Emordi’s side has been impressive, with a solid team structure and strong performances from players.

Sporting Lagos, hot on Akwa United’s heels, will be looking to capitalise on their opponents’ slip-up and take the top spot. The Lagos outfit has a strong squad, but will need to be at their best to overcome Akwa United’s formidable home record. Sporting Lagos comes into this game after a hard-fought victory over Abakaliki and will be looking to build on that momentum.

The match promises to be a cracker, with both teams having a lot to play for. A win for Akwa United would see them maintain their lead, while a victory for Sporting Lagos would see them leapfrog their opponents into top spot. The atmosphere at the Godwill Akpabio Stadium is expected to be electric, with fans from both teams set to descend in large numbers.

Other matches in the league this weekend include Abakaliki FC against Akpabio FC.

Abia Comets will face Gateway United.

Heartland FC will play Sunshine Stars.

Kada Warriors will take on City FC.

Lobi Stars will meet Mighty Jets.

Rovers FC will also face Osun United.
