The Director, NNPC, Academy, Folasade Adekeye, has expressed the readiness of the Company to compete at the Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) which holds in April 2024.
Adekeye, who stated this during medal presentations which was held at the Mo Arena Auditorium in Abuja on Thursday, said plans are already in top gear to ensure that NNPC comes out top during the NOGIG. She added that staff are being motivated to flag the Company’s flag high at the Games and win laurels.
“I can assure you that we are in top gear already. All the athletes, players and the participants you see here are warning up and this is in readiness for April. I can assure you that we have done it before. NNPC has come top. This is another opportunity for us and we are coming out big time.
“I’m highly satisfied with this event and as you can see, all the staff are highly motivated and that shows you that there is a balance. There is what we call work light integration and that is what you see at play here. Our staff are motivated, they are doing very well on their job and at the same time they are ready to express themselves in sports and games.”
Speaking on why former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, is being brought on board to add glamour to the competition, Adekeye said, “For us NNPC Limited is a brand. So, for you to see us bringing a legend like (Austin) Okocha, it tells you how much we have invested in this, how much this means to us. So it’s not just NNPC Limited as the energy company that you know, it is also to tell you that we are involved in every other thing like sports and games.”
Ernest Oghenejobo who emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the basketball competition said NNPC is fully prepared to excel at the Oil and Gas Games.
“We are going back to the drawing board to make sure that we are more clinical and finish better so that we can rest, regroup and work hard to be better come NOGIG.”
The week-long event which kicked off on Sunday will climax today at the main bowl of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja where Okocha is expected to lead former players in a novelty match against NNPC selected team.
This year’s edition of the biennial event themed “Healthy Workforce, Productive Organization,” symbolised NNPC’s belief in the integral role of physical well-being towards enhancing organizational productivity among employees.
Sporting Tribune reports that athletes participated in 13 games namely football, basketball, volleyball, chess, squash, and scrabble. Others are 8-ball pool, golf, tennis, table tennis, badminton, swimming and athletics.
