‘No peace at all’, Debutant Joao Felix sees red as Chelsea lose 2-1 to Fulham

There seems to be no respite in sight for Chelsea following a poor string of results and unfortunate luck, with a 2-1 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage the latest in a line of unwanted results.

Debutant Joao Felix who joined Chelsea on a 6-month loan deal from Atletico on Wednesday was sent off for a rash tackle on Kennedy Tete.

Until his sending-off, Felix had been arguably the most impressive player on the pitch, recording the most shots (6), shots on target (4), successful take-ons (2), and won the most fouls (4) of any player on either side.

Felix is set to serve a 3-match suspension, which will serve as a further blow to Chelsea.

Under new owner, Todd Boehly, and manager Graham Potter, the Blues have struggled for form despite splurging heavily in the summer and January windows. Winning just 2 matches in their last 11 in all competitions.

Chelsea sits 10th on the log with 25 points from 18 matches and have suffered elimination from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Ironically a Twitter user before kickoff predicted that Felix could get sent off due to Chelsea’s recent luck.

@marieEscobarPAWG Icl I have a feeling Felix gets sent off like I could see it happening just because of how Chelsea has been lately

Other reactions

Jamie Carragher: @Carra23 Felix & Chelsea can’t complain with the red card, but up until that point he’d been the best player on the pitch!

@OptaJoe João Félix is the first player to be sent off for Chelsea on their Premier League debut, and the first to do so for any club since Federico Fazio for Spurs vs Manchester City in October 2014. Welcome.

MAVINS Star Crayon: @crayonthis Chelsea deserve no peace at all!!! Cos Wetin them don use Man U fans eyes see for this app ehnn!! Abeg make we gather laugh balaba bulue

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host and unapologetic Chelsea fan Frank Edoho: @frankedoho Awww. Shucks! Joao Felix sent off! Insanity is beginning to creep in. We have a hex placed on us.

@PoojaMedia 6 months loan deal is now 5 months after the red card for Joao Felix. Straight red is a 3-match ban i.e. One month off from the loan deal. With the loan fee & the red, this could go down as a “waste” of money. Tough for Potter

@ZachyLowy João Félix has had some incredibly encouraging signs today but that’s a Sunday League tackle. He can’t be having any complaints and he’s just let the team down. With that being said, plenty of positives to take from tonight’s debut.

@babacatcoco Poor Joao. And he was having a good game

@BenJacobs Joao Felix can’t have any complaints. A reckless challenge. He’s been desperate to impress all game, and looked really lively, but on this occasion it was rash and a clear red card. Sad way to end his debut.
@the_Lawrenz The lad didn’t have a bad game. He’ll come back stronger.
