ARSENAL forward, Alex Iwobi, has declared that he has no regrets pledging his loyalty to his fatherland by playing for Nigeria at the senior level, instead of England.
The Arsenal prodigy declared that he wanted to play for Nigeria, where he was born and his family was from, declaring that, “I have no regrets playing for my country.”
According to the ex-England junior player, “Yeah, I was advised by my uncle and my dad to play for my country because that is the country they are from. But at the end of the day, I wanted to play for my country.
“This is where I was born and my family is from here. When the chance came for me to play for my country, I didn’t want to turn it down. I have no regrets playing for my country. I am a proud Nigerian. And I am happy to represent this country.
“There are a lot of Nigerians in the world; there are a lot of Nigerians playing in the UK, Europe and everywhere. The decision [to convince them to play for Nigeria] is hard.
“For me, I was based in England and I was playing for England before and I was comfortable playing for that country, you don’t want to leave your comfort zone. There are lot of talents playing in the UK but they are not comfortable leaving their comfort zone, which is what I had to do and I am not regretting it,” he told sports writers ahead of the Super Eagles’ crucial World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola on Sunday.
