Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche after 114 days in charge

Nottingham Forest have sacked Sean Dyche as head coach after 114 days in charge, making him the club’s third managerial casualty of the season.

Forest sit just three points above the Premier League relegation zone after a goalless draw against bottom side Wolves on Wednesday, with 12 matches left to play.

Dyche, 54, was appointed in October after the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou and signed a contract running until the summer of 2027.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” a statement read.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck in the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou himself lasted just 39 days after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked three games into the 2025-26 season. Forest are now searching for a fourth permanent manager and could become the first Premier League club to appoint four head coaches in one campaign.

Dyche took charge at Forest 18th after one win in eight games. He lost his first match 2-0 to Bournemouth but then recorded four wins and a draw in seven games to move the club out of the relegation zone.

That run was followed by four straight defeats before a brief recovery, including a win at West Ham and a draw against Arsenal. However, Forest remained in the bottom battle as Leeds United and West Ham improved their form.

In Europe, Forest finished 13th in the Europa League group phase to reach the knockout rounds and are scheduled to face Fenerbahce over two legs. They are out of both domestic cups, having exited the FA Cup on penalties to Wrexham and the EFL Cup earlier in the season.

Following the Wolves’ draw, Dyche appeared resigned to his fate.

“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt. If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it.

“If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now, that’s just the reality of it.

“I understand the noise here has changed significantly since the last few games.”

Dyche won seven of his first 12 matches and was recently nominated for Premier League manager of the month. However, just two wins in the last 10 league games led to the board’s decision.
