The National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with the National Anti-Doping Committee (NADC), has stepped up efforts to promote clean sports by training and educating young athletes on the dangers of performance-enhancing substances.
At the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, the Anti-Doping Information and Education Play Station was unveiled to sensitise athletes on the importance of fair play, discipline, and integrity in sports.
The initiative, led by Mr. Raphael Odo (Drug Testing) and Mrs. Onos Dans (Head of Information and Education, NADC), provided interactive learning sessions, including the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) quiz and practical lessons on the 11 anti-doping rule violations.
Speaking on the initiative, the NSC emphasised that while competition brings out the best in athletes physically and mentally, the temptation to gain unfair advantage through banned substances remains a serious threat.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict anti-doping policies while also prioritising education to build a generation of drug-free athletes.
The programme not only creates awareness about the dangers of doping but also instills in young athletes the values of hard work, honesty, and responsibility.
According to the NSC, achievements earned through determination and discipline will always outweigh shortcuts taken through drugs.
The NADC, with the backing of the NSC, pledged to sustain its campaign to safeguard the integrity of Nigerian sports and ensure young athletes grow into role models who embody true sportsmanship.
