NSF: Release funds for athletes, SWAN urges Imo govt

As the Natural Sports Festival is set to hold in Ogun State, the Imo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appealed to the state government to urgently make funds available for athletes already in preparation for the festival.

In a press statement after it’s May 2025 Congress in Owerri signed by the association’s Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka and the Secretary Tunde Liadi, the association frowned at the continued delay in releasing the money to Team Imo.

The body pointed out that the funds would enable the team to hit the ground running for the Nigeria’s Olympic events billed to commence on Sunday

The Association also harped on the provision of quality and standard facilities to replace delapidated ones for Imo athletes to excel at Sports competitions.

SWAN commended both athletes and officials for their efforts and commitment to excel at the Festival.

The Association recalled that Imo State had recorded poor outings at the last three Festivals and charged the State Government to invest more in Sports.
