Thirty-five budding table tennis stars, aged between 9 and 19, are currently immersed in intensive training at the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) national camp, ahead of three international tournaments scheduled for later this month in Ghana and Guinea.

The camp, hosted at Babcock University in Ogun State, enjoys the full support of the institution’s management under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Afolarin Ojewole.

Supervised by Coach Dotun Omoniyi and four other coaches, the group—comprising 18 girls and 17 boys—is preparing for the Africa Hopes Week and Challenge, the West African Regional Championships, and the African Youth Championships.

Professor Ojewole praised the players’ discipline and skill, noting that the initiative reflects Babcock University’s vision of holistic education.

“Sports are vital in shaping character, instilling discipline, and nurturing future leaders. The determination, resilience, and sportsmanship these young athletes display are qualities the world needs today,” he said.

NTTF President, Adesoji Tayo, highlighted that the camp is not a one-off initiative, revealing a partnership with Babcock University to make the institution a permanent training base for Nigeria’s national teams.

“This campus offers everything: focus, nutrition, medical care, and world-class facilities. It is an ideal environment for our players to thrive,” he remarked, commending the university’s commitment to supporting the athletes.

With the players sharpening their skills and the institution providing unwavering support, the camp has become a beacon of Nigeria’s determination to nurture its next generation of champions.
