The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Sokoto State Council on Monday inaugurated the newly elected Sports Writers Association of Nigeria ((SWAN), executive council.
Speaking while inaugurating the new executive, the state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Dalhattu Abdullah Safiya-Maigori, commended the process of the emergence of the executive members of the association.
He called on the newly elected executive members to pilot the affairs of the association with fear of God and carry every member of the association along.
The chairman of the credential committee of the association, Abass Tukur Sanyinna, in his remarks, said the process of the election was a little bit challenging.
He said the committee in its effort to ensure that the process as released by the national headquarters was met, embarked on remobilization of members across all the chapels to register with the national body.
He however called on the new exco members to get copies of the constitution of the association which he said will guide them in the discharge of their activities.
Also speaking, the chairman of the NUJ election credential committee, Shehu Jato Sanyinna, urged every member of the council to be united.
He called on every member of SWAN and NUJ in general not to let the forthcoming NUJ election divide them, saying everyone has the right to vote for their candidates.
Also, the General manager of Vision FM, Muhammad Nasir Sokoto, advised the new executive council to revive the lost glory of the association in the state.
He urged SWAN to revive sports activities in the state by organizing different competitions to unite not only chapels but also other cooperate organizations.
Speaking in his congratulatory message, the zonal Vice President, Northwest SWAN, Kabiru Gobirawa, challenged the executive members to kickstart their tenure with action.
He called on them to ensure that every member of the association is registered with the national headquarters of SWAN.
Speaking on behalf of the SWAN executive, the chairman, Umar Ahmad Kware, of Vision FM, commended the state NUJ leadership for constituting the credentials committee with people of noble character.
He assured that the new leadership of the association is ready to take SWAN to greater heights.
He called on members of the association in the state to join hands with the executive to achieve its target for the association.
Other members of the executive include Nasiru Suleiman and Arise TV as Vice Chairman, Adeniyi Olugbemi of Leadership is to serve as the Secretary of the association in the state.
Also elected are Aminu Abubakar Zaki from The Path Newspaper as Treasurer, Bilyaminu Bello, of RTV as Assistant Secretary, Nasir Bello Mai Shinkafa and Hassan Altine Shuni both from Rima Radio who emerge as Financial Secretary and Welfare Officer of the union respectively.
