Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is in the running for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award and will face tough competition, including Cameroon’s Andre Onana.
The Chippa United shot-stopper has been recognised for his outstanding performances in 2024, especially for his heroics during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Nwabali was a key figure in helping the Super Eagles reach the final, conceding only two goals throughout the tournament.
Despite Nigeria losing 2-1 to the host nation in the final, Nwabali’s impressive displays earned him a place among Africa’s top goalkeepers.
Nwabali will compete with some of Africa’s biggest names for the award. The nominees include:
Andre Onana (Manchester United & Cameroon)
Ronwen Williams (South Africa)
Oussama Benbot (Algeria)
Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast)
Lionel Mpasi (DR Congo)
Winning the award will be a challenge for Nwabali, but he stands a good chance to make history by becoming the first Nigerian goalkeeper to claim the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year honour.
