2018 Commonwealth Games
The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has invited 12 weightlifters for a closed camping ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games slated for Gold Coast in Australia in April.
The Secretary-General of NWF, Umar Lambu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that the camping would hold in three phases in Abuja.
Lambu, who disclosed that seven female and five male weightlifters have been invited to camp, said the first phase of camping would begin on Sunday and end on January 16.
“The second phase will be from January 17 to February 16, while the third phase will hold from February 17 to 28,” the NWF secretary-general said.
Lambi stated that the weightlifters would embark on training tours of Europe ahead of the games from March 1 to March 30.
NAN reports that the female weightlifters invited to camp are Chika Amalaha (53kg), Fatima Yakubu (53kg), Monica Uweh, Augustina Nwaokolo (48kg), Ruth Ayodele (58kg), Chineye Fedelis and Victoria Adesanmi.
The male lifters are the African 85kg champion, Michael Anyalewechi, Gideon Aigbefoh, Olawale Oredugba, Rilwan Adekunle and Ademola Oginni.
NAN reports that the 2018 Commonwealth Games will hold from April 4 to April 15.
