NYG: Team Anambra bags two gold, two silver

Team Anambra athletes participating at the 7th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta, on Tuesday, won five medals to register their names on the medals table at the ongoing sports fiesta.

The team won two gold medals through Chibuikem Oranye in Taekwondo in the poomsae event single, while Chibuikem Oranye and Ogechi Elechi combined to win the team event.

Anambra also finished second in female Rugby to pick up a silver medal, while Ethel Jimoh won the second silver in the Gymnastics Vault event.

Elechi, who had earlier won gold in the Taekwondo Poomsae team event, closed the medal haul of the day with a bronze in individual Poomsae.

Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, commended the team for their competitive spirit and feat so far at the games.

Onyedum said that the state team was capable of winning more gold as the competition entered its advanced stage.
