NYG2023: Make Oyo proud, Sports commissioner charges contigent

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke has charged Team Oyo athletes taking part in the 7th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta state to make the state proud.

Adegoke gave the charge at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, while addressing the young athletes as they prepare to leave the state capital to Detla state.

He urged them to be good ambassadors of the state, shun acts that could tarnish the image of the state and compete clean and fair as the Games opened this weekend.

“I want to encourage everyone to make us proud, and also make our dear state proud as well. The state Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde is doing everything possible to empower youths in the state and this is another achievement from His Excellency.”

“I charge you all to be at your best in every game and win laurels for the state. We are the pacesetters and we must continue to be on top.”

While further cautioning the athletes to refrain from taking performance-enhancing drugs, Hon Adegoke tasked coaches to closely monitor their athletes and guide them rightly.

She therefore tasked the athletes to not only compete with every sense of professionalism and integrity but also show the resilience that is associated with illustrious sons and daughters of Oyo state and bring home laurels that would make the state proud.

Also speaking to newsmen, Acting General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Tunde Ajibike thanked the governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for his unrelenting support to youth and sports development in the state and promised that the athletes will represent the state excellently.

Meanwhile, Oyo state contingent which comprises 167 athletes, 33 coaches and sports officers are expected to arrive in Delta state before Saturday to witness the official opening ceremony.

Oyo State will participate in more than twenty games.
