GODWIN Obaje of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, on Saturday was presented with the Rashidi Yekini award for the highest goalscorer of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The award was received on behalf of Godwin Obaje by his elder brother, Joshua, as he is presently out of the country to seek a transfer to an European club.
In his response, Joshua Obaje, thanked the Rashidi Yekini Foundation and the family of the late football icon for encouraging Nigerian footballers to put in their best in their chosen career through the award.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the presentation which held at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, the brain behind the award and counsel to the late Yekini, Barrister Jubril Mohammed, said the award is aimed at keeping the memory of the former Super Eagles striker alive through his contributions to the development of football in the country.
“We at Rashidi Yekini Foundation feel it is important to do something to keep his memory alive. It is our belief that his efforts must not go without immortalising his name appropriately”, he said.
