OFFICIAL: Chelsea sign Morata

Chelsea have completed the signing of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata on a five-year deal.

The deal is believed to be worth £70m, making Morata Chelsea’s club-record buy. The Spaniard is now expected to head out to Asia, where Antonio Conte’s side are currently on tour, to join up with his new team-mates.

‘The Daily Mail’ reports that Morata will earn £155,000 a week at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old could barely hide his delight after signing for the ‘Blues’, “‘I am so happy to be here. It’s an incredible emotion to be part of this big club. I am looking to work hard, score as many goals as I can and to win as many trophies as possible,” he explained.

Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo said: “We are delighted to complete Alvaro’s signing and welcome him to the club. We believe he can make a great impact for Chelsea and look forward to seeing him in action.”

“Alvaro has proven class at the highest level and his quality will be a huge asset to Antonio and the squad.”

Morata scored 20 goals in 43 appearances last season and his La Liga average of a goal every 89 minutes was bettered only by Lionel Messi.

The Spanish international will no doubt be eager to get to work under Antonio Conte, who he previously worked under at Juventus.

He becomes Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
