OFFICIAL: Messi extends Barcelona deal until 2021

Barcelona supporters can now breathe a sigh of relief: Messi is staying at the Camp Nou. Following a complex negotiation process, the Argentine striker and the club have reached an agreement. Messi has renewed his contract until 2021.

Barcelona have managed to fulfill one of their main objectives this summer: to seal Messi’s contract renewal. The 30-year-old will remain at the Catalan club until 2021.

Barca have been working on Leo’s new contract for many months now. Towards the end of the season, Messi turned down the club’s initial offer. At that time, the ‘Blaugranas’ had offered their star around 35 million euros.

Not surprisingly, the Catalan side did not give up on their efforts to sign a new deal with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Here is the result of months of arduous negotiations and ongoing speculation: Messi will continue to prove his genius at the Camp Nou.

‘The club is very happy with both the renewal and the commitment of Messi, the best player in history, who has played his full professional career at Barca and has led the team to an era of extraordinary success, the likes of which has never been seen in world football’, the club said in a statement.

Barcelona have completed their most important move this transfer window, reportedly slapping a 300 million release clause on the superstar.
