Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Yomi Oke has charged the Heroic Image Sports Club to join the state government to promote sport in general in the state.
Oke gave the charge on Friday when the Club paid him a courtesy visit at his office, Secretariat, Ibadan.
He said the Club as a major stakeholder in sport development should drive the point home that the state need an all-round avenue to promote sports particularly at grassroots for sports.
“The focus of this administration under Senator Abiola Ajimobi is ‘Catch them young grassroots sports development, so most of the things we are doing, are targeted at the young ones from U-10 to U-15 because we believe they are the future and in the main, this government is doing what it can to develop sporting facilities in the state”.
“We are here, let us know what you need at specific time, at time goes on we will support your effort,” he assured the Club.
Earlier in his speech, the President of the Club, Kenneth Umeh solicited partnership and recognition from the ministry.
”Heroic Image Sports Club is a non-governmental Organisation (NGO), an organisation of sports personalities, businessmen, ex-internationals, administrators and technocrats whose passion for sports development is massive.
“We demand an enduring partnership with the ministry in the ways of instituting and organising periodic school sports competition among private/public secondary schools in the state. We require logistics and financial support that will help in carrying out this objective of promoting and propagating sports development across the state”.
