The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has congratulated the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida, over his appointment as the new Board Chairman of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Olopade said Kida has been one of Nigeria’s most efficient and productive sports administrators who has sacrificed a lot for the growth of Nigerian basketball.
The DG described Kida’s latest appointment as a testament to his years of passion, hard work, dedication and a very successful track record in the oil sector for more than two decades.
“Engineer Musa Kida is an accomplished administrator whose achievements cut across both the oil sector and Nigerian basketball. I have no doubt that the NNPC Limited will attain better efficiency and attract more investment under his watch.
“Under his leadership as the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, we have seen the steady growth of the country’s basketball and how the national teams have continued to achieve new heights.
“At the last Olympic Games in France, the Nigeria Women Basketball team, D’Tigress was one of the shining stories for Team Nigeria, where they set a new record by making it to the knockout phase before losing to the United States.
“While the oil sector will benefit immensely from the expertise of Engineer Musa Kida as the new Board Chairman of the NNPC Limited, Mr President has further helped to place Nigerian sports in a better pedestal by putting one of us in a very strategic place like the NNPC,” Olopade said.
Also, a basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Mark Igoche, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Kida on his new appointment charging him to exceed President Tinubu’s expectations as the board chairman of the national oil company.
Igoche, while commenting on Kida’s appointment, said, “This is a stunning achievement for Engineer Kida. His extensive experience, capacity, and quality make him an exceptional choice for this critical role. With over forty years in the oil industry, he brings a wealth of knowledge that is invaluable.”
The Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship founder urged Kida to leverage his background in basketball, both as a player and an administrator, to drive the NNPCL towards ambitious goals.
He added, “I encourage him to channel his passion and leadership from the basketball court into the oil sector, a familiar terrain you have operated since 1985.
“Mr President has set high expectations, aiming to raise oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million by 2030, along with increasing gas production to eight billion cubic feet daily by 2027 and ten billion by 2030. I have no doubt that Engineer Kida has the vision and determination to exceed these targets.”
