Olympics: Nigerians fume as top athlete, Favour, announces exit from 100m race

Nigerians have reacted to top athlete, Favour Ofili’s exclusion from the 100-metre race at the ongoing Paris Olympics.

Ofili, Tuesday, posted on her X page, saying she will not participate in the women’s 100 meters at the Paris Olympics because the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) failed to register her for the event.

Nigerians have reacted angrily to the news, expressing disappointment with the NOC and AFN as regulatory bodies.

@Thattarokdude “A lot of questions to be asked but really gutted on your behalf because I can’t tell you worked so hard for this. I pray God gives you the strength to bear this and if there’s a case of oversight from someone in AFN and NOC, I hope they answer for it.

@TheBoykayy “Nigeria kills too many dreams chai. this is simply too sad.”

@TundeTASH Incompetence and negligence at its peak. Who are the people really involved?????”

@UgwunnaEjikem “Gross Incompetence has eaten into the very fabric of this nation, wallahi we’re doomed & this is not me being dramatic.”

@Capolutiti “Is it a crime to be a Nigerian ? I asked this same question earlier regarding the Female basketball team (D Tigress) considering the hurdles they had to go through to compete and won beating the 3rd ranking female basketball team in the world. Once again, is it a crime to be born a Nigerian or identify as one?”

@Phatill, “This is just so heartbreaking. I’m so sorry you’re made to go through this”

@d_Nwandu “Someone should loose their job for this but I’m not holding my breath. Proof once again that at any level Nigeria will always happen to you. Hopefully they do the right thing for your 200M race.”

@swagnito “We are fighting for people here in Nigeria, and the country is even affecting the ones outside Nigeria. How do we even get this country to start working???”

@olamijuwon1007 “How did this happen? How would those who were supposed to register your name not do it? This is sad. Whoever is responsible for this national embarrassment should be sacked”
