Nigeria’s Super Falcons will today begin their campaign in the 2028 Olympics women’s football qualifiers against Comoros.
Both fixtures of the second round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
Comoros will play both games in Ikenne, as the island nation could not provide a standard stadium that met CAF standards.
Today’s game, scheduled to kick off at 5 pm serves as the home fixture for Comoros.

Nigeria are yet to recover from the shock of missing out on the ticket to the 2027 Women’s World Cup following the Falcons’ inability to make it to the semi-final at the recently concluded 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and also losing in the playoff to South Africa.
The 10-time African champions will miss Asisat Oshoala, Ashley Plumptre and Oluwatosin Demehin in both fixtures against Comoros, due to injuries.
The Falcons still have the complement of their captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Shukurat Oladipo, Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne, Jennifer Echegini, Folashade Ijamilusi, Uchenna Kanu, Gift Monday and Joy Omewa, among others, to prosecute both fixtures leading to the third round of the Olympics qualifiers.
Interim head coach of the Super Falcons, Augustine Eguavoen, despite the absence of some key players, still expressed confidence in the team.
“It is true that we have several withdrawals, notably Asisat Oshoala, Ashley Plumptre and Oluwatosin Demehin. However, I have confidence in their replacements, as they also have the quality and experience to contribute meaningfully to the team’s success against Comoros.
“Everyone has settled in well in camp as we have a full house now, and our focus is to present a strong and competitive squad for the two matches,” the former Super Eagles coach told the NFF Media.
The reverse fixture will be played on Tuesday, October 13, also at the same Stadium.
Meanwhile, Ms. Henriette Byukusenge from Rwanda has been appointed as the centre referee for the match.
