Omagbemi hands late call up to Onome Ebi and three others

The foreign-based players have been called up for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after they were initially left out of the team

Nigeria’s senior women coach Florence Omagbemi has extended late invitations to Onome Ebi, Halimatu Ayinde, Esther Sunday and Uchechi Sunday ahead of next month’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Goal can exclusively report.

The development came on the heels of criticisms received by the nation’s football authorities over the snub of the top stars for the continental showpiece.

The late call-ups of Minsk duo of Ebi and Ayinde as well as Trabzon İdmanocagı’s Esther, and Uchechi bring to 12 the number of overseas–based players and total invited to 34.

Invited players have been contacted with invitations notice sent to their various clubs in Europe.

The reigning champions had resumed final preparations for the tournament on October 9 with 22 home based players already in camp at the Serob Legacy Hotel, Abuja.

With this,12 foreign-based players including Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie, Francisca are expected to join the team in the first week of November.

The Falcons are drawn against Ghana, Mali and Kenya in Group B, and they will open their campaign against Mali on November 20, 2016.
