Nigerian midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi has raised eyebrows following Thursday ranking of Nigeria as the 50th best team in the world.
Last month, Nigeria were 41, so the latest ranking implied that Nigeria has slipped nine places, a situation Onazi finds puzzling.
‘I don’t know how this FIFA ranking thing works the Turkey-based player told AOIfootball.com. ‘
”The current ranking is not a position of the way things are. it’s just not fair we dropped despite the performances we put up in the qualifiers and even in the friendly match against Argentina,” he said.
Nigeria recently defeated two-time world champions Argentina 4-2 in a friendly recently played in Krasnodar, Russia, yet the South Americans remain fourth best team in the world.
With the rating, Nigeria are now eighth ranked team in Africa with fellow 2018 World Cup finalists Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal and Morocco all ahead.
Senegal are 23rd in the world, Tunisia 27th, Egypt 31st and Morocco 40th.
Both Nigeria and Morocco are in Pot 4 of the World Cup draw on December 1 in Moscow after the FIFA rankings of October were exclusively used for the seedings.
However, the Eagles are better ranked than World Cup hosts Russia (65th) as well as fellow World Cup qualifiers Saudi Arabia (63rd) and Panama (56th).
