Ondo State government has commended freestyle wrestler and world silver medallist, Odunayo Adekuoroye and national wrestling coach, Purity Akuh for winning different awards at the 2017 Nigerian Sports Award held last weekend in Lagos.
The state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, in a statement commended the duo for making the state proud at the prestigious annual award.
“On behalf of Mr Governor {Mr Rotimi Akeredolu} and all sports-loving people of our dear sunshine state, I say big congratulations to Coach Purity Akuh and our dear wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye on winning the awards.
“We are very happy with their achievements and urge them to keep the flag flying. On our part as government, we shall continue to work hard to ensure that our youths reach their goals in their chosen careers by creating the enabling environment and provide the needed support and encouragement,” Ogunleye said in the statement.
It will be recalled, that the reigning African and Commonwealth Games champion, Odunayo Adekuroye, clinched home the awards for both Wrestler of the Year and the Sports Woman of the Year.
Her coach, Akuh, won the Coach of the Year award where Sam Vincent, the man who led Nigeria’s D’Tigers to win the 2017 Women’s AfroBasket, and Kennedy Boboye, who coached Plateau United to win the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title this season as nominees.
