Former Ankaragucu and Ankaraspor manager, Reha Kapsal has endorsed Victor Osimhen over Mauro Icardi as it concerns scoring prowess.
Kapsal highlighted Osimhen’s exceptional ability to score goals independently, distinguishing him as a more self-reliant striker compared to Icardi, who typically depends on his teammates for goal opportu-nities.
The Nigeria forward recently joined the Turkish giants on a season-long loan from Napoli and has become a teammate of Icardi, who has been with Galatasaray since his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2022.
Despite Icardi’s contributions, Kapsal believes that the towering striker is the more complete forward.
In an interview with the Turkish media outlet A Spor, Kapsal offered high praise for Osimhen, expressing his belief that the Nigerian’s versatility and self-reliance give him the edge on his rival.
“The main difference between Osimhen and Icardi is that Icardi needs his teammates to score goals, Osimhen doesn’t need anyone. The Nigerian star finds a position and scores even if they don’t bring the ball to him.”
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old made his Galatasaray debut over the weekend and registered an assist. Turkish media reported that the former Napoli forward became the first player in the 2024/25 season to record seven shots in a single match.
However, four of Osimhen’s attempts were blocked, two missed the target, and Croatian goalkeeper Ivo Grbić saved his only shot on goal.
