The Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, will miss this year’s CAF Awards scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco, after suffering a hamstring injury against DR Congo on international duty for Nigeria.
Osimhen won the African best player in 2023 and was shortlisted in the top three finalists at this year’s edition against Mohammed Salah (Egypt and Liverpool forward) and Achraf Hakimi (PSG and Morocco).
The player is expected to undergo a scan that will determine the extent of the injury he suffered on Sunday.
Recall that Osimhen was substituted at halftime in the final of the 2026 World Cup African play-offs on Sunday. The striker was believed to have suffered a hamstring injury and was substituted to minimise the risk.
In the semi-final against Gabon, the 27-year-old scored an extra-time brace to take his national goals tally for Nigeria to 31 goals.
