Governor Ademola Adeleke will on Friday receive the prestigious Football Excellence Award at the Osun Football Association Awards ceremony for his transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to sports development in the state.
The Osun FA Chairman, Sola Fanawopo, in a statement on Tuesday, said the award to be conferred on the governor is a testament to Adeleke’s extraordinary contributions to the growth of football and sports infrastructure in the state.
Fanawopo stated that since the assumption of office of the governor, his administration has embarked on an ambitious journey to reposition Osun as a hub of athletic talent and sports tourism, with football at its core.
Other personalities to be honoured with Special Awards for their contributions to the advancement of round leather game in the state include Osun Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Sports, Kola Adewusi, former Osun FA Chairman, Rasaq Ishola Mustapha and the founder of the foremost Sports Academy, Lanreleke Sports Academy Ile-Ogbo, Lanre Leke.
Fanawopo noted that Governor Adeleke has reawakened and sponsored the participation of Osun State athletes in various sports to national competitions, adding that the governor has not only started renovating once moribund Osogbo Township Stadium, but he has also been prioritising the welfare of athletes.
He said it is a new dawn for Osun athletes who don’t just stop hailing juicy welfare packages initiated by Adeleke, disclosing that Osun has become a beehive of talents cum sporting activities as its reputation keeps soaring nationally.
According to him, the event which will hold on Friday, December 6, at the iconic Mosab Mega Hall, Ring Road, Osogbo, would attract dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders from across the state and beyond.
He said the event would also spotlight rewarding excellence and passion, recognising outstanding achievements of footballers, sports journalists, referees, coaches, teams and communities within the Osun football ecosystem.
Fanawopo posited that the Osun FA Awards 2024 will not only serve as a moment to celebrate past accomplishments but also as an inspiration for future progress.
He noted that the awards night will send a powerful message to young athletes and football fans across Osun State, showing them that excellence in sports is acknowledged and celebrated.
“We want this event to be a reminder that every effort, every goal, every save, and every plan matters. By celebrating these achievements, we are setting an example for the next generation of Osun football stars,” he said.
