Lions Clubs International district 404B2 of Region 11 and 12 Nigeria, Osun state under the able leadership of Lion (Prof) Dayo Fagbohun, at the weekend, held its First Quarterly Sports activities for the year 2023/2024 Lions service year to promote the spirit of love and understanding among members with the assurance that, the clubs would remain ever virile.
Speaking at the programme held at the Osogbo Sports Club, Station road, Osogbo, the Chairperson of the district, Lion, Olusegun Babatunde, stressed that, with the activities, the interpersonal relationships and empathy among members would be well cemented and become more solidified.
While assuring that the clubs would not relent in its efforts to ensure that members promote oneness and togetherness, he pledged to ensure mutual relationships among them for the advancement of the clubs.
At the event, the clubs within the district were well represented and participated fully in the competitive sporting activities and at the end of the day were presented with, a Certificate of Participation.
Also, presented with the certificates were all the winning clubs, eminent Lions in attendance on behalf of the Committee.
Meanwhile, For each participating club, a certificate is given in recognition of their performances and motivations.
Some of the games where participants took part were table tennis, where Lion Gbenga Ogunkanmi of Osun Classic Lions Club emerged as the winner, Draughts, where Lion Olabode Nuhu, of Osun Classic Lions Club, emerged as the winner, Chess, where Lion Muritala Osineye of Metropolitan Lions Club, emerged winner.
Other winners were,: Abiodun Balogun of New Era Lions Club, Osogbo, Scrabble: Winner – Osogbo Metropolitan Lions Club (Lion Deji Atoyebi), Whot: 10 participants. Winner – Osun Esteem Lions Club, Osogbo ( Lion Iyiola Taofeek), Ayo Olopon: 12 participants, Winner – Osogbo Metropolitan Lions Club ( Lion Olufunke Odesanmi), amongst others.
Other committee members that made the event colourful were, Lion Ayodeji Osundiran, region 11 Chairperson and Lion Toyin Adesoye.
In an interview with our reporter at the end of the exercise, Lion Sunday Akere of Osun New Era Lions Club and the immediate Special adviser to former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola on political matters, described the activities as outstanding and inspiring and commended the committee saddled with the assignment for their remarkable efforts in ensuring it’s victory.
Lion Akere while attributing their contributions to the development of the clubs as pacesetting, charged them to maintain the tempo for the group virility.
