Ex-international, Dr Felix Owolabi (MON) on Monday said that the appointment of Randy Waldrum as Technical Adviser for the Super Falcons was the right for the success of the team.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) approved the appointment of Waldrum on October 19 based on recommendation by the Technical Development Committee.
Owolabi, winner of 1980 AFCON said “It has been long that I have been expecting that we get the services of a foreign coach.
“In most cases even the U-17, U-18, U-20, and the Falcons and the Falconets, each time we make any appreciable impact, it has always being through the resilience and the individual intelligence and the performances of these players.
“But at the time, that is during the quarter-finals and semi-finals stage, when we now need the expertise of these coaches handling them, to make use of the brains and intellect their tactics or whatever to make our players scale through; we don’t have it.
“At that time we fall like a pack of cards; believe me sincerely I say 100 per cent kudos to them because we want to get result.”
He added that the authorities should promote good working relationship between the foreign and the local coaches.
“Then the local coach must be given such a leverage that in the end, there will be a very fine and good collaboration between both, so that our own coach will be able to learn a lot.
“You see football has gone beyond the way we are seeing it. It is no more for recreation, it is for international value.
“And anybody that values football will want to go to any length to ensure that they get the best for themselves,” he said.
