Former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his playing partner, Ahmed Sulaiman have again emerged victorious at the Ibadan Golf Club championships as they both clinched the Doubles Match Play.
Sulaiman, who has been a partner of the former president of the Nigeria Professional Golfers Association for years, also retained his Single Match Play title.
Speaking with Corporatesport, Sulaiman said winning require a lot of training with divine favour.
“I have won this Single Match Play title for the fourth time in a row and I’m also happy winning the Doubles Match play championship with my playing partner, Prince Oyinlola. This, indeed, is a great achievement.
“The secret is that the more you train and work hard, the more you will definitely achieve success,” he said.
Sulaiman stated that developing golf requires adequate support, not only from the government, but from other stakeholders.
“I just want to appeal to the Federal Government to create an avenue for youths to embrace golf. We need to discover young players and provide an enabling environment for them to practise, which would enable them to excel in the sport.
“For instance we only have two effective golf courses in Oyo State, one in Odogbo and the other one at the Ibadan Golf Club, which is a symbol of Oyo State but we need more facilities to develop the game.”
