Oyo Assembly to partner SWAN on sports development

THE Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Olusegun Adeyemo, has expressed the House’s readiness to enter into partnership with the Sports Writers’ Association ((SWAN), Oyo State chapter, to bring forth and put into action ideas aimed at developing sports in the state.

Adeyemo, made the commitment on Thursday, during a courtesy call by the Oyo SWAN executive on the House Committee on Sports. He noted that sports remain a potential antidote to social vices in the society.

“We acknowledge your efforts in the quest to develop sport in Oyo State. Let me use this forum to assure you of our readiness to partner with you in a bid to reposition sports in the state. I want to also state unequivocally here that we will not relent in our efforts until Oyo State becomes a reference point.

“Your series of intervention in the past, I must say, did not go unnoticed and we commend you for that. All we request from you now is your continued cooperation and if this is maintained, then sky will be  our beginning,” he said.

Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Hon. Fatai Adesina, urged the sports journalists to protect their integrity by ensuring fairness in their reportage and pledged the committee’s support for all SWAN activities in the state, adding that the synergy between the House Committee on Sport and the  association at this time when sports in Oyo State is in a not-so-good situation became imperative.

Chairman, Oyo SWAN, Mr Niyi Alebiosu, thanked the Speaker, the House Committee on Sports for their warm reception and pledged that  the association will do everything possible to ensure that Oyo State becomes a force to reckon with as far as sports is concerned.

“We are always ready in whatever way we can be useful in the quest for sports development in Oyo State. As one of the major stakeholders, Oyo SWAN will come up with series of ideas which can be considered and made use of in the bid to reposition sport in the state.”
