Oyo SWAN holds 4th Ramadan lecture

In continuation of its annual tradition during the Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State chapter is putting together a lecture for journalists and other members of the public.

The Ramadan lecture titled “Dos and Don’ts of Fasting Athletes ” is to be delivered by a retired insurance broker, now an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Mudasir Bada on April 19, 2022.

A very knowledgeable, polished and widely travelled cleric with impeccable British English accent, Alhaji Bada, is the Imam of Oluyole Muslim Community in Ibadan.

Speaking on the lecture scheduled to hold at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ Press Centre Iyaganku in Ibadan, the Chairman of SWAN in Oyo State Mr Abdul-Azeez Adeniyi Alebiosu explained that the lecture is aimed at enlightening athletes, journalists and other professionals on how to cope with fasting, such that it won’t affect their productivity.

“We want people to know that you can fast without being slowed down. We deliberately chose this topic to enable fasting athletes cope with the challenges of fasting and rigours of sports. And we are bringing a very sound and well versed cleric who will do justice to the topic”, Alebiosu said.

According to the Chairman of Oyo SWAN Ramadan Lecture Planning Committee Mr Abass Ishola, the lecture will be an eye opener to people as it will also reveal the health benefits of fasting.

The lecture will be attended by various dignitaries including the National President of the Nigeria Referees Association Alhaji Tade Azeez, who will be the Chairman of the day and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Oyo State, Mr Seun Fakorede as the Special Guest of Honour.

The mother of the day will be the Association’s Patroness, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde while the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Oyo state, Alhaji Ismail Ademola Babalola is expected to be chief host.

The 2022 Oyo SWAN Ramadan Lecture is the fourth edition of the exercise that began in 2019.
